Big things are happening in Illinois! On the heels of the launch of our recent mobility share in Urbana-Champaign, VeoRide is circling back to Northern Illinois University and the city of DeKalb to bring another 150 bikes to that market over the next couple months. These bikes will be stylin’ with a branded NIU logo, custom made just for the Huskies! With the addition of these bikes, NIU will have a fleet of 280 bikes available for the campus community.
VeoRide first launched at NIU in late April, and since that time, the community has embraced the mobility share concept. More than 2,000 active users on the VeoRide app have logged more than 15,000 trips and 6,000 miles to date.
NIU expects the program to be earth- and dollar-friendly, saving an estimated 240 tons of CO2 per year and reducing the University’s cost for bike rental operations.
VeoRide bikes can give riders greater flexibility and freedom,” said NIU Parking Services Coordinator Sue Bidstrup. “Users don’t need to be tied to a single bike for the whole day since they can use a VeoRide bike anytime.”
VeoRide wants to stay close to our Illinois friends, so we decided to set up shop in the Land of Lincoln. In fact, we love Illinois so much, we are opening an office in Chicago! We’ll share more about that in a future blog post. Until then, cycle on!
